Montezuma Canyon: San Juan River

·       Day trip: 7 hours

·       Departs: 8am

·       July and August

We offer one trip daily for the scenic float through Montezuma Canyon on the San Juan River. Approximately 14 miles of the river will be covered in the trip. A delicious picnic lunch will be served by your guides on the bank of the river.

This is a peaceful float with small to moderate rapids (class I to II). The emphasis is on the scenic beauty, historic abandoned railroad, ghostowns, and old homesteads of this area. During the break, you may choose to hike with us up into the forest or side canyons or perhaps take a refreshing dip in the river. One of the highlights of this morning float is a stop at an old pioneer homestead  located right on the New Mexico state line. Ancient Pueblo Indian Pottery Shards can be found at some of the ruin sites along the river.

All trips depart from Fairfield Activities Center. This trip leaves at 8am and returns around 3pm.
