8:45am: Arrive in Durango and Board the Historic Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. Each Train car has restrooms, and a concession car sells refreshments once the trip is under way. The gorgeous alpine scenery and deep, rugged Animas Canyon will astound you as the train makes its climb to Silverton. For 40 years this train was Silverton’s only link to civilization in the winter.

12:45pm: Train arrives in the historic 1880’s mining town of Silverton. You will have a couple of hours to explore, shop, and eat lunch. The town of Silverton is a national Historic Landmark with lots of picturesque building and people. Be sure to visit the Shady Lady on notorious Blair Street if you want a really scandalous souvenir. The shopping is fabulous you can find authentic Indian crafts, old fashioned fudge, or a funnel cake.

2:15pm: Our historian/driver will take you for a tour of the mining district above Silverton. View 100+ year old mining structures nestled among soaring mountain peaks.

3:00pm: Depart Silverton by bus and head out over the Million Dollar Highway for a spectacular view of the Needle Mountain high country from passes approaching 11,000 feet in elevation. You will ride along the spine of the nation—the Famous Continental Divide- viewing snowcapped, jagged 13,000 ft. alp-like peaks, high mountain meadows and lakes, quaint cabins, beautiful wildflowers, and perhaps marmots and deer.

4:15pm:  Arrive back in the historic railroad town Durango. Enjoy a short break at the train station to stretch your legs, and visit the train museum, purchase last minute souvenirs or perhaps an ice cream cone or sweets form the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

5:00pm:  Depart Durango on our bus which will be waiting for you in front of the train depot. Sit back, relax, show off your souvenirs and chat with your friendly fellow travelers on the way back to Pagosa Springs.
