Pagosa Are Wildlife and History Tour
This scenic tour features abundant wildlife, old ghost towns, and abandoned homesteads. Transportation by van or 4x4 vehicle, binoculars, and our historian guide are included in the price of this tour. We will begin by retracing the old abandoned turn of the century railways. Our running commentary on the history of the lumber and railroad barons of this era is fascinating and sometime a humorous tale. During the course of the journey we will encounter very few people. Because so few people now live in this once thriving area, the wildlife is abundant. Flocks of wild turkeys are frequently spotted along with numerous bald and golden eagles. Heard of elk and deer are encountered, and we will stop to view them with binoculars. Great photo opportunities abound. After charging out spiritual batteries at Navajo Lake, we more on to our lunch stop in pagosa. It’s on ward and upward to our next adventure after lunch. The ice caves canyon cut by the Piedra River through sandstone ridges is traversed by a pleasant cliff-side trail which will take us to the canyon overlook where we view great icicles overhanging the cliffs and vertical caves. Then it’s on to Williams Lake. Nestled in the high Rocky Mountains, at the base of the Continental Divide, This Lake is a prize jewel. Bring and Wear: Camera, Binoculars, Sweater or jacket for cooler weather, hiking or walking shoes, and lunch money. Also available ½ day · 8am to noon · 1pm to 5pm Timeshare Guest cost per person |
